Kematian dan pemakaman George H. W. Bush
Pada 30 November 2018, George H. W. Bush, ke-41 Presiden Amerika Serikat, meninggal setelah berjuang melawan penyakit Parkinson vaskular di rumahnya di Houston, Texas. Dia adalah presiden AS pertama yang meninggal sejak Gerald Ford pada akhir 2006. Pada usia 94 tahun dan 171 hari, Bush adalah presiden AS yang paling lama hidup dalam sejarah sampai 22 Maret 2019, ketika rekornya dilampaui. oleh Jimmy Carter.

Latar belakang
Mantan Presiden George H. W. Bush telah berjuang dengan masalah kesehatan selama beberapa tahun menjelang kematiannya. Pemerintah Britania Raya memerintahkan agar bendera Britania Raya dikibarkan setengah tiang pada 1 Desember 2018 untuk berkabung atas kematian George H. W. Bush.[76] Pemerintah Kanada juga memerintahkan instruksi yang sama di gedung instansi pemerintahan federal pada 5 Desember.[77]
Presiden Kosovo Hashim Thaçi mengumumkan bahwa 5 Desember 2018 ditetapkan sebagai hari perkabungan nasional dan memerintahkan agar bendera Kosovo dikibarkan setengah tiang.[78][79]

Rencana
Sebelum wafat, Bush mengirimkan sebuah dokumen yang memiliki 211 halaman kepada Distrik Militer Washington mengenai rencana upacara pemakamannya. Dokumen tersebut tercantum permintaan agar Angkatan Udara Amerika Serikat melakukan penerbangan formasi pesawat tempur dalam formasi "missing man" selama upacara pemakaman kenegaraan serta pemakaman terakhirnya di Perpustakaan dan Museum Kepresidenan George H.W. Bush di College Station, Texas. Bush juga mengindikasikan bahwa ia tidak menginginkan lagu resmi Presiden "Hail to the Chief" dikumandangkan selama pemakamannya. Selain itu, Bush membuat rencana untuk upacara pemakaman kenegaraan yang akan diadakan di Katedral Nasional Washington di Washington D.C.[80]

Para pendeta yang memimpin upacara termasuk Michael Bruce Curry, Mariann Edgar Budde, Randolph Marshall Hollerith, dan Dr. Russell Levenson Jr. Rosemarie Logan Duncan bertindak sebagai pembawa acara. Tahap 3 (Houston, Spring, College Station)
Meskipun di permintaan George H. W. Bush menuliskan bahwa Angkatan Udara Amerika Serikat akan melakukan aksi flypass dengan formasi "missing man", Angkatan Laut Amerika Serikat mengumumkan bahwa mereka akan melakukan flypass untuk pemakamannya dengan mengerahkan 21 pesawat F/A-18 yang dipimpin oleh Kapten Kevin McLaughin, komandan Strike Fighter Wing Atlantic dimana seluruh pesawat dicat dengan corak khusus untuk upacara pemakaman ini. Formasi ini merupakan formasi flypass pemakaman terbesar selama sejarah angkatan laut.[95] Penerbangan formasi tersebut dikenal sebagai "penerbangan orang hilang," dan menampilkan 21 pesawat dalam posisi unik sebagai penghormatan kepada pengabdian Bush sebagai pilot Angkatan Laut selama Perang Dunia II.[96]

Seperti biasa, para pengusung peti mati yang berisi jenazah Bush setiap kali peti itu dipindahkan diambil dari personel Angkatan Darat Amerika Serikat, Angkatan Laut Amerika Serikat, Angkatan Udara Amerika Serikat, Korps Marinir Amerika Serikat, dan Penjaga Pantai Amerika Serikat.[97] Selain itu, pengusung peti jenazah kehormatan dipilih untuk sebagian besar pergerakan peti jenazah.

Bush menjadi pengusung kehormatan untuk pemindahan peti jenazah dari Misi Udara Khusus 41 di Pangkalan Gabungan Andrews.[99] Tiga belas pengusung peti jenazah kehormatan lainnya dipilih untuk mengangkut peti mati dari mobil jenazah ke rotunda Gedung Capitol AS, yang semuanya adalah mantan komandan kapal atau kelompok serang USS George H.W.
