Mazhab-mazhab Kristen Santo Tomas atau Denominasi Kristen Santo Tomas adalah mazhab-mazhab Kristen dari Kerala, India, yang menelusuri asal-usul mereka kepada aktivitas penginjilan Tomas sang Rasul pada abad ke-1.[1][2][3][4][5] Mereka juga dikenal sebagai orang "Nasrani". Istilah "Nasrani" dalam bahasa Siria masih digunakan oleh masyarakat Kristen Santo Tomas di Kerala.
Selama 15 abad pertama, mereka memiliki pemimpin mereka sendiri yang mereka patuhi dan yang hormati baik oleh masyarakat maupun para penguasa negara. Pada tahun 190 M, Pantaenus dari Iskandariyah mengunjungi orang-orang Kristen ini.[6] Dia menemukan bahwa mereka menggunakan Injil Matius dalam bahasa Ibrani. Sekitar tahun 522 M, seorang rahib Mesir, Cosmas Indicopleustes, mengunjungi Pantai Malabar. Dia menyebutkan orang Kristen di sebuah negara bernama Male, di mana lada tumbuh, dalam bukunya Topografi Kristen.[7][8][9] Ini menunjukkan bahwa hingga abad ke-6 orang-orang Kristen ini telah berhubungan dekat dengan Iskandariyah.
Pada tahun 883 M, Alfred yang Agung (849–899), Raja Wessex, Inggris dilaporkan mengirim hadiah kepada Mar Thoma, orang Kristen di India melalui Sighelm, uskup Sherborne.[10] Sekitar tahun 1292 M, Marco Polo (1254–1324) dalam perjalanan pulangnya dari Tiongkok mengunjungi Kerala, menyebutkan bahwa, "Masyarakatnya adalah penyembah berhala, meskipun ada beberapa orang Kristen dan Yahudi di antara mereka."[11][12]
Diyakini bahwa pada tahun 768 M, orang-orang Kristen dari Edessa tiba di Kerala di bawah kepemimpinan Tomas dari Kana,[13] dan pada tahun 825 M, kelompok lain bergabung dengan mereka. Mereka memiliki uskup mereka sendiri yang mengunjungi mereka dari Persia. Meskipun orang-orang Kristen Santo Tomas menyambut mereka, para uskup ini tidak berusaha untuk membawahi mereka. Orang-orang Kristen Santo Thomas tetap sebagai sebuah kelompok independen, dan mereka memiliki uskup mereka dari Gereja Timur sampai abad ke-16.
Orang-orang Kristen Santo Thomas sangat terpengaruh oleh kedatangan Portugis pada tahun 1498. Portugis berusaha untuk membawa komunitas ini di bawah naungan agama Katolik Ritus Latin, mengakibatkan perpecahan permanen dalam komunitas tersebut.[14][15][16]
