Klasifikasi Smith et al. tahun 2006, berdasarkan filogeni molekuler, memasukkan Cheiroglossa ke dalam Ophioglossum, dalam famili Ophioglossaceae.[1] Klasifikasi Christenhusz et al. tahun 2011 mempertahankan genus ini sebagai genus terpisah dalam Ophioglossaceae,[2] demikian pula klasifikasi Pteridophyte Phylogeny Group tahun 2016 (PPG I),[3] sementara genus ini dikembalikan ke sinonim Ophioglossum oleh klasifikasi Christenhusz dan Chase tahun 2014.[4][5] Klasifikasi PPG I juga menempatkannya ke dalam anak suku Ophioglossoideae, yang sesuai dengan sirkumskripsi Ophioglossum yang digunakan dalam Christenhusz dan Chase.[3][4]
